Sathya Shankar’s story of rags to riches
As mentioned, this particular Rolls Royce Phantom VIII EWB belongs to Sathya Shankar. He is currently the owner of SG Corporates, which is the parent company that launched the extremely popular Bindu Jeera Masala Soda. Today, Shankar is worth over $100 million. However, things were not the same some decades ago.
Sathya Shankar started his career as an autorickshaw driver. Yes, you heard that right. The man who today drives around in a Rs 11.3 crore Rolls Royce Phantom luxury sedan once used to drive a humble autorickshaw. What makes his story even more interesting is that he had to take a loan to buy his first autorickshaw.
Now, as we know, luck favors the bold and the ones who never back down from hard work. Life blessed Sathya Shankar with success, and he successfully paid off his autorickshaw loan and then bought a Hindustan Ambassador sedan. Following which, in 1987, Shankar opened a tyre dealership.
After the success of this dealership, in 2002, he launched Bindu Jeera Masala Soda – a carbonated drink with flavour inspired by cumin-based traditional Indian drink. It then became a massive success in the country, and today, SG Corporates, which is the company owned by Shankar, does an annual turnover of over Rs 800 crore.
Rolls Royce Phantom VIII EWB delivery
Sathya Shankar is based out of Puttur, which is a small town in Karnataka. This particular Rolls Royce Phantom VIII EWB was delivered to Shankar at his residence in Puttur. It is very rare that a vehicle like a Rolls Royce Phantom is owned by someone from a tier-3 or rural town of India.
This particular Rolls Royce Phantom VIII EWB is finished in the classy shade of light champagne. As for the interior, the millionaire soda king has opted for a deep shade of burgundy and black. We can also note that the doorsill of this vehicle mentions, “Specially ordered for Sathya Shankar K.”
The Rolls Royce Phantom VIII EWB comes powered by a massive 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol motor. It is capable of producing 571 bhp and 900 Nm of torque. As for the transmission, it gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Rolls Royce Phantom engine is one of the quietest engines of all time.
