A Chinese man who embarked on a cross-country road trip with his carsick-prone dog went viral online after securing the canine in a custom-made cage attached to the back of his car, complete with a humorous sign.
On April 21, the dog owner, surnamed Hao, set off on a journey from Shanghai with his seven-month-old male Labrador, affectionately nicknamed Mimi, a name that playfully mimics the sound of a cat’s miaow.
Hao shared with Jimu News that Mimi tends to get carsick, making it challenging for him to travel comfortably inside the vehicle.
To address this issue, he commissioned a custom cage, which he securely mounted to the rear of his Tesla. He discovered that Mimi was significantly more comfortable travelling in the fresh air.

To enhance the travel experience even further, Hao covered the cage with black fabric to block sunlight and added a soft cushion inside to provide Mimi with a cosy surface to rest on.
He also affixed a sign to the cage that read: “This guy gets carsick!”
“I love road trips and wanted to bring Mimi along, so I put up the sign to ensure people did not think I was mistreating him,” Hao explained, adding that Mimi’s health and mood have remained excellent throughout their travels.
To guarantee his set-up complied with regulations, Hao reported to the Shanghai Vehicle Administrative Office and received approval to display the car’s licence plate directly on the cage.

The pair have so far travelled to 14 destinations, covering over 13,000km, including Xian in Shaanxi province, Lanzhou in Gansu province, and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
They are now exploring Bayanbulak in Xinjiang, home to China’s second-largest grassland, and plan to continue their adventure for another two to three months, venturing through Tibet, Yunnan province, and Chongqing.
Along the way, Hao and Mimi have become local celebrities, turning heads and drawing curious onlookers who often stop to take photos and chat.
Many jokingly ask: “Is this the famous dog who gets carsick and has to be ‘paraded’ around?”

According to the Asia Pet Research Institute, China was home to 187 million pet dogs and cats last year.
