Bankrupt Tesla rival to sell off electric SUVs for $3700 each – report

Bankrupt electric car maker Fisker is selling off its remaining batch of SUVs at $US2500 a pop in order to pay off its debts.

The US start-up filed for bankruptcy in June after months of financial struggles – and talks to partner with a top global car company fell through.

Production of the Fisker Ocean – a Tesla Model Y-rivalling SUV – was paused in March, and prices of vehicles in stock were slashed by 40 per cent.

Now the cost has hit the bottom of the sea floor, with the company said to be in the process of working on a deal to off-load the last 3231 vehicles for as little as $US2500 ($AU3700) each, reports InsideEVs.

According to the US website, Fisker is in talks to sign the deal – filed in a US bankruptcy court earlier this week .

Last month, The Wall Street Journal reported the fleet deal was with American Lease, with the firm said to be interested in taking a large number of Oceans due to a new rule which requires New York's ridesharing vehicles to be all-electric by 2030.

According to the WSJ, American Lease has agreed to buy all Oceans in Fisker's inventory that are configured for the US or Canada.

It has agreed to pay $US16,500 ($AU24,500) each for brand-new Ocean in good working order, which Fisker says it has 2711 of. Damaged vehicles will go for $2500 ($AU3700), while previously titled Oceans will cost $3200 ($AU4750). Prototype or pre-production vehicles, which can't be sold or used for parts, along with Canadian-configured Oceans in Canada, are excluded from the sale.
