GWM’s new Tank 400 PHEV with updated powertrain will start pre-sale on October 21

Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) new Tank 400 plug-in hybrid SUV will start pre-sale on October 21, available in the existing Hi4-T and a newly added Hi4-Z variants. The official unveil was on September 22 in China, featuring a refreshed design and configuration upgrades.

The overall design of the new Tank 400 largely continues the current model, with the following changes:

-added black decorative trim to the front bumper and updated the line layout
-a new roof-mounted lidar, side, and rearview cameras to support GWM’s third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra advanced driving assistance system to realize urban and highway NOA
-a new “Dunhuang Purple” exterior paint option
-updated tail badges: the “GWM TANK” and “Great Wall Motors” logos are at the top and the “Tank 400” and “Hi4-T / Hi4-Z” logos are at the bottom

The new Tank 400 measures 4964/1970/1905 mm (l/w/h), with a wheelbase of 2850 mm, which is 21 mm shorter, 10 mm wider, and 5 mm taller than the current model. The wheelbase remains unchanged.

Two powertrain options will be offered for consumers to choose from: Hi4-T and Hi4-Z.

The Hi4-Z variant uses the same powertrain as the Tank 500 Hi4-Z, consisting of a 2.0T engine and dual P2 and P4 electric motors, providing a fuel consumption of 8.3L/100km. The engine has a maximum power of 185 kW (248 hp) and a peak torque of 380
Nm. The P2 and P4 motors have maximum power of 215 kW (288 hp) and 240 kW (322 hp), respectively. The 59.05 kWh ternary lithium battery pack provides a CLTC pure electric range of 200 km.

The Hi4-T variant continues to boast a plug-in hybrid system consisting of the same 2.0T engine as the Hi4-Z and an electric motor, providing a fuel consumption of 8.4L/100km. The electric motor generates a maximum power of 120 kW (161 hp). Equipped with a 37.1 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, the CLTC pure electric range is 105 km.

The interior design mirrors the existing model, featuring a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 15.6-inch floating central control screen, powered by GWM’s latest Coffee 3 operating system.
